Grandpa & Grandma

I have always been close to my grandparents, but now that I am older and have my own family, I appreciate them even more than ever. Just wanted to share some thoughts about them that I have been pondering...

What a heart for sharing the Gospel to those who need to hear of Christ's love.
He has had many physical difficulties in his 82 years, including a hip replacement [after which we nearly lost him] and major heart surgeries. At our church's prayer meeting, I'm sure he could easily [and rightfully] share multiple personal prayer requests for physical needs, but what does he ask for prayer for? Salvation for the lost.
[So convicting to me...I am constantly thinking about my own needs and wants...how selfish I am.]
In his spare time, he can be found visiting other elderly people in the Medical Center of the retirement home where they live...speaking to them about things of eternal value and reading Scripture to them.
Or you may find him in front of his computer studying for a sermon [yes, he is amazing and still preaches quite often!].
Or he quite possibly will be leading a Bible study or discipling a young man from church.
He's a quiet man who doesn't always have a lot to say...but the words that he uses are always wise and well worth listening to.

One of the most hospitable people I know...always thinking of others first.
An amazing cook and capable woman.
She is such a joy to talk to, share stories with, and smile and laugh with.
No matter how much pain she is in with sciatica or other physical ailments, she never complains.
[whew..another thing that's convicting to me...]
Such a heart for the lost as well.
And a heart for people...at her 82 years, you may find her playing the piano for a small church meeting at their retirement home...or you may find her spending her free time playing Rummikub or Skip-Bo with those who need friends or visitors.
She meticulously and thoughtfully picks out just the right greeting card for each family member's birthday or anniversary. Always just perfect.
And I love to hear her pray.

Such a blessing to see her taking care of her great-grandchildren with so much love and care and joy.

For years they have made it a habit of sitting down together in the morning, reading a devotion/Bible and praying for each member of the family...by name. That's 5 children/spouses, 12 grandchildren/spouses, and 4 great-grandchildren.
When they tell me they are praying for me, I know it to be true. Such prayer warriors.

So glad to live only 7 minutes away now...and cherishing the times I have with them, however simple [like last night's impromptu invitation to stay for a delicious macaroni & cheese and peas dinner--precious times] they may be.

Grandpa and Grandma are some of the most selfless, giving, loving, and godly people I know.
So thankful to be blessed with this heritage.

"Be kind and compassionate to one another." They've got this one down! What great parents. Just sayin.

I agree. I love your grandparents. I miss the times I shared with them in small group.
