I put a load of laundry in the washer and was getting ready for the day. A few minutes later I walked into the laundry area & bedroom connected to it and was horrified at what I saw. The washing machine was leaking and spurting water all over the floor and into the bedroom.. in fact, by this point, the water had made it all the way across the bedroom and almost into the closet. I was home by myself, so I grabbed as many towels as I could and tried soaking up all the water (thinking the entire time that this was a wood floor and we're not supposed to get ANY water on it at all!! So much for that...). Meanwhile the water was still running and leaking even after I turned off the washer. Finally I figured out how to turn off the water completely and continued soaking up the rest of the water.
Needless to say, our wood floor in our spare bedroom will never be the same. Our huge bookshelf just happened to be on that same wall where the water is, so to my dismay, we (mostly Tony) had to clear ALL the books off of the shelf in order to move the bookcase and check for water underneath.
Not exactly something that I had planned on doing that day... I can't complain though, because my sweet husband did most of the work!
Here are some of the many many piles of books from the bookshelf (by the way, they were very well organized before we took them off!)

My dear husband taking advantage of the opportunity to dust the shelves...

On a positive note, we will be getting a brand new washer, so that will be very nice. We just have to figure out what to do with our dirty laundry for the next 2 weeks before the new one comes.. sigh. However, I continue to remind myself that this little washer incident is NOTHING compared to the damage that some many people have had to deal with as a result of the hurricanes.

Oh man! I am so sorry you had to go through all that! Don't be afraid to call someone to ask to use their washer. I'm sure there would be lots of people who would be willing to help :)
OH NO. I'm sorry! :( Is the floor damaged very badly?
Yay for a new washer! that will be super handy especially since you'll be doing a lot more laundry once baby girl is born! :)
Thanks, Marcie.. yeah, it sounds like we'll have a few people who are willing to help us out, so we're thankful for that!
Charissa.. yes, the floor is damaged pretty badly.. I'm just glad it's not the room that's going to be the baby room. Yes, it will be very nice to have a brand new washer!!
